The easiest way to install apps onto your Palm HandheldDiscussion: Some applications, such as Adobe Acrobat, have installers. With those programs, you double-click the installer just like with any Mac application, and follow the directions. The installer will place the necessary files in the Install Handheld Files window for you, so you don't need to follow any of the steps shown on this page.Another way to add files is to launch the HotSync Manager application and manually add files to it. Here, I show you the easiest way: simply double-clicking. |
Step 1: Open the folder or mount the disk image that contains the application you'll install. Then read the ReadMe or install document so you're sure to install the correct files. (Yes, for some of us Mac users reading instructions is a novel idea - but it's a very good idea.) Once you know which files to install, select those files, then double-click on any of the now-selected files, as shown here. This automatically places the double-clicked files into the Install Handheld Files window and opens that window for you, as shown below. |
If you have only one user profile, all that is left is to do a HotSync and let the software place your files onto your Palm Handheld for you.
However, if you have more than one profie, you want to be sure you'll be doing the install for the correct user. Notice where I have the mouse pointing. This is where the user name is reported. If the correct desired user name is not currenly displayed, proceed to Step 2. |

You will notice that the list of files to be installed is now empty again. You will need to place them here again, as in Step 3. |

That is, select the files to be installed and double-click any one of the selected files. |
The files should now appear in the window and the correct User name should be in the pop-up menu. |

If it's landing where you want it, proceed to the HotSync. If not, you can easily switch the destination. Learn how to switch destinations. Note: if you're installing a multimedia file, it will automatically go to the SecureDigital (SD) card as it is not possible to put these files on the Handheld itself. Here, we are discussing the installation of applications, which are typically .prc or .pdb files. |
